Who grants small loans in Switzerland?
Almost all banks and credit brokers in Switzerland grant small loans. The only exceptions are house banks, which no longer grant loans. They have completely outsourced their lending business to the credit banks. Small loans are often used to bridge a financial bottleneck, to finance small purchases or to pay off credit card debts. Mini loans, cash loans, microloans, small loans, personal loans, consumer loans: what is what?
All of these terms refer to loans of a small amount. All of these terms are used when a consumer loan within the meaning of the Consumer Credit Act (KKG) is meant. Some credit providers refer to small loans as mini or micro loans, while others call them cash loans, personal loans or consumer loans. How such a small loan is ultimately made up
depends on the loan provider in each country. In Switzerland, cash loans range from a few hundred to a few thousand francs. The terms of these small loans are generally rather short. However, there are credit providers who also grant small loans for higher loan amounts and longer terms. The KKG also stipulates that a waiting period of 14 days applies to loans between CHF 500 and CHF 80,000. If someone needs the money immediately, a loan of over CHF 80,000 must be applied for.
What are the advantages of a small loan?
The Consumer Credit Act (KKG) does not apply to small loans of less than CHF 500. You can often obtain such loans without a ZEK query - whether you are a private individual or a small business. However, the loan interest rates are also significantly higher because the lenders are not bound by the KKG. Such microloans - also known as kiosk loans - are also paid out faster than usual, i.e. within 14 days. This is an advantage if the loan term is only a few months. The biggest advantage of a microloan is its flexibility:
- You are flexible in your choice of loan amount and term. And from a term of three months, you can repay your small loan without any additional fees.
- Your small loan is also not earmarked for a specific purpose: You can use it for
repaying a loan, bridging liquidity shortages or when a necessary investment is imminent. - You can also repay and top up a small loan or combine several current small loans into a new personal loan.
